Quick work

I have to be quick, I have lots to do by March.

Lengthened stitch,  number 4 on my Bernina, walking foot, sewn in green and white variegated thread  on random diagonal lines to match the colour movement of the patches: charity quilt for Portage, West Sussex.  I quilted across the border too as the thread blends with the fabric, so no sewing ends in!  Awaiting binding.  I'll use this stitch again.

Large  'single', lots of ends to sew on this one. The picture is from the layering process at work.  I will heavily free motion quilt the purple border.

Quilted with King Tutt variegated thread, hides the wobbles nicely!  Not the best quilting, but this was the largest thing I have stuffed under the machine so far-by the end I had the hang of it!  Like the King Tutt thread a lot, but its pricey!
The reverse thread was Guttermann variegated pink, blends nicely with the fabric and picks up the directional pattern.   LOVE this backing fabric.
Now off to Leah Days site to choose a pattern for the border quilting, and cut some binding. .

Fuzzy

Stitches are getting more even, I can risk them showing now.
I'm sure I could do better on a floor frame rather than wrestling a hoop and a double quilt on my lap!
I have to see if I really enjoy this before I splash out.

Wonky hearts

I'm quilting in an 18'' frame, its a litte too big to manage on my lap, so I will be buying another one this week.

Each cream section has two wonky hearts; the brown and blue quilting is influenced by the fabric. Some bad pictures.......!
I have only ever hand quilted small samplers without a frame before, by anchoring the fabric to the table with the needle hand and using the tension created in the fabric with the other hand to sew, like the Jinny Beyer handsewing technique. This is harder work, needs a lot of practice and is HOT in midsummer with a double quilt on my lap!  I'm going to review Alex Andersons lessons this week-free lessons, you don't have to join TQS.

Sunday tipples

Scrummy 5 pounds per metre backing fabric. All the colours will camouflage dubious hand quilting!

Potential quilting pattern for one of my hexie projects.  I think I need a random pattern rather than quilting inside the seams of the shapes-lines of quilting across the seams will stabilise the hand sewing and take strain off the thousands of lines of hand sewing.
